Scoring

How a five gets its number.

You pick five players who cost $15 or less. GOATED scores the group, stores that score as a whole number, and ranks the board. Higher wins.

1. Talent

Every player in the pool has a private rating, from 0 to 10, for offense, defense, spacing, big-game experience, and clutch play. A lineup’s talent is the average of the five.

2. Fit

The averages then move based on how the five play together:

  • Too many players who need the ball lowers the offense.
  • A crowded floor — weak spacing — lowers the offense too.
  • Several elite defenders raise the defense. A poor defender is a hole the other way.
  • Players who shared a franchise get a chemistry bump on experience and clutch.
  • A group that’s already strong on both ends gets a small extra clutch bump.
  • Several unproven players lower the clutch rating.

3. One weighted total

Those adjusted ratings fold into a single total. Offense is about a quarter of it, defense a little over a fifth, experience a fifth, clutch a bit under a fifth, and spacing the rest. GOATED multiplies that total by 100 and stores the integer. You see the integer, not the raw decimal.

4. The $15 cap

The cap is a rule, not a bonus. Every lineup has to cost $15 or less, and leftover money does not add points. If two scores tie, the cheaper lineup finishes ahead. If they cost the same, the earlier entry does.

5. The crown

Each official board crowns its own top eligible lineup. A night with three boards can crown three GOATs. House benchmark lineups are scored so you have something to compare against, and they cannot take rank, coins, or a crown.

Entry is 150 virtual GOAT coins, the same shape as a $15 lineup. Coins are not cash, and nothing on the site is a real-money wager.
